Railway time that is...
Since time began railway bars were created to employ people of low disposition. They accomplish it the world over and Valladolid is no different. Esta wifi aqui? No!
Course not the big sign saying it does is just a ruse to get you in....& drink really bad red in the capital of Ribera del duero @ 1.95 a pretend junior glass. I'm over 18 I smiled at the half wit who knew I was a passenger that would never return. My 50€ note was the icing on his bad day cake. He slammed the changed down and I smiled muchos gracias and retreated out to the sunshine

Valladolid
What can I say about Valladolid - buildings and spaces, lots of them. Little narrow streets open into vast squares and there's a cathedral or church in most of them. They were largely closed but the architecture is truly unspoilt.
Bar Zamora was my favourite tapas bar just behind the plaza mayor to the left.
I did a huge loop walking for 6 hours so saw a lot of the river and the canal as well as the buildings and campo grande etc.
There is lots to see and you don't need a map as its all in front of you. I doubt I'll be back but I don't mind if I do!

Chapter 47 - The sun had fallen quickly as Jose and Harry found
"I thought I was very caring with the old people." Said Jose as they sat in the plaza by the hotel. The sun had fallen quickly as Jose and Harry found themselves in the growing shade of the Gaudi hotel opposite the cathedral of his name in Astorga.
Pilgrims loved Astorga. The chocolate capital of the Camino arrived a perfect distance down the route from St Gien with 20-22 days completed most people were feeling like treats were required to maintain body weight.
Normally they were avoided to make the hills easier. Carrying weight up hills whether water, bodyweight, friends or relatives was always to be averted but inevitably after 3 weeks rules were to be broken.
"Avery's grandparents weren't quite so lucky" said Harry as he stroked his ponytail. It became a swish as Josie answered with laughter
"No they weren't", laughed josie - "victims of what I saw as a fascinating paradox between many pro lifers. There seems a case to answer where this anti abortion stance dramatically diminishes with the care of the aged, becoming more a, 'God is calling you' at the end of life. I know it's not universally applied but Avery seemed the perfect example of someone who could turn God into anything pro Avery. He would've made a great Cardinal. His parents both deteriorated badly and being put in that rest home was like administering the last rites."
"Well it was when he paid nurse N'jektastik"
Harry had a very red head a victim of seeing in the mirror what he wanted to see. He pulled the hair from his frugal frontal lobes and gathered each side carefully over his ears before rejoining again with his favourite bauble tie. It was a shell. He'd bought it in st gien pied fu Porte on the first evening. What he didn't realise was the bald section of his head was as red as his glass of vino tinto. It had moved from sunburn to a serious looking scourge blistering like a Cara potato in late October. Clearly Harry was an earlier variety than the cara but looked like he would benefit from wearing a hat during the day. Pilgrims do this so he wasn't alone. Even when they look after themselves whilst walking, they quickly forget when they start talking and Harry was talking. From a distance he looked like a frisky Shetland pony as his head moved from side to side in excitement.
"I loved that, I really loved that. He was such a horrible man this gave the reader no doubt he really was a horrible man, a proper US politician. Populist, parent killer and polecat.
"Well put, Harry" smiled Jose, " he had many other incredibly detestable qualities but I like your three 'p's"

A tale of two weathers part 1
If you look in the right direction you will always find sunshine even if you are not on the Camino. I had a simple plan to do some of the Camino Norte this week. The sunshine below would suggest my timing was priceless but alas no. It has rained most of the time but as ever my glass has been over (half) flowing. We walked around Bilbao and saw the Guggenheim as the sun crash off its tin man roof. We then took ourselves to cafe iruna and ate pinchos moruno even better than paganos in logrono although they were 2.50€ not €1 !! I digress - while we are it rained cats goats and all species Norte. We left in a dry moment and nearly made it back dry but that's early March for you. It was 17 degrees and a balmy 12 at night time so all was well until last night. That's when snow was predicted in Burgos and fromista. I had planned to do two days walking but now I head to Valladolid
You might look at the picture below and wonder why. I walked out of Santander through the centre of the town, straight up the hill and over the back to the university, shamelessly following the blue sky. There were no Amarillo fleschas so I just went for Mrs blue sky! I was properly rewarded as it got very warm and then I turned right and arrived at sardinero beach. I followed it around to the right and met the hotel of the same name and later a casino too. I met 007 it felt that surreal to see a building so isolated with casino but as I headed back into town I left Mrs blue sky and met mr dark cloud, that's the Camino!
Don't make a plan, you only change it!
